Floral Designers in the News

It's been really great to read the recent press coverage about some highly skilled professional floral designers. Here are summaries of the articles:

Driving Force Leaves a Floral Legacy, from the LA Times, covers the story of Els Hazenberg's retirement from designing the incredible flower arrangements that have adorned the antique cars in the Tournament of Roses Parade.  For more than 25 years, this Dutch Master Florist and AIFD Award of Design Influence recipient has wowed the New Year's Day parade crowds with her stunning designs. Congratulations to Els and to her successor, Keith White, AIFD of Houston, Texas.

Gatti's Love of Nature Blooms - sans Flowers, from the San Francisco Chronicle, highlights Stanlee Gatti's stunning exhibit at Golden Gate Park's Conservatory of Flowers. Titled One: An Earth Installation, Gatti employs live plants, dried materials, mosses and other natural elements to sculpt his large-scale presentation.

Hasty's Bloomin' Art, from the Beaumont Journal, features a story about the gallery exhibit and demonstration series at The Art Studio, Inc. showcasing the fresh floral art of Scott Hasty, AIFD.  In the article, Scott shares:

"My heartbeat is to broaden the gap between professional and unprofessional through education and by presenting my craft and the principles and elements of design."

Scott is a former Texas Cup winner and owns and operates J Scott's, A Florist in Orange, TX.

Eco-Flowers Crown the Queen's Float at 2007 Rose Parade, from PRNewsWire, features the use of 5' tall roses to decorate the Queen's Float in the Tournament of Roses Parade.  The float was created by Jim Hynd, AIFD of Fiesta Floats, with the fresh floral decorating done by Cherrie Silverman, AIFD of Cherry Blossoms Florist, Westminster, CO. The spectacular roses were provided by OrganicBouquet.com.

Let's hope 2007 sees even more stories about the cool, original creations of professional floral designers.
