When we send flowers & gifts, we automatically assume that most cities, towns, & hamlets are serviced by a local florist.

What we forget though, is that many, many rural areas simply don't have the population base to support a full-fledged flower shop.

What happens then?

Well, delivery from larger towns can be attempted, but often this entails a 30-40 mile (48-64 kilometre) trip...and that's one way!

My wife Dale & my kids Angela & Nicolle recently spent five wonderful days in Corvallis/Albany, Oregon. The area we visited is to the west of the I-5 between Portland and Eugene, and a bit off the "beaten path".

The trip was a florist fact-finding mission for Simon Says Roses, as to the differences in how flowers are ordered and delivered between Canada and the U.S.

Having recently returned from a two week vacation in Mexico, it amazes me the level of development that's happening in the region.

In particular, the area around Banderas Bay including Puerto Vallarta, Nuevo Vallarta, Conchas Chinas, and Mismaloya is experiencing an unprecedented boom in new condo developments.

At one point I started to count the number of workers scampering around a high rise development. There were over 70 workers on one building!
